Recipes for beginners

Dhal for Chappathis :
Ingredients:
Green Gram Dhal (payatham paruppu) - 250 gms
Onions : 2 (Big)
Tomatoes : 2 (Big)
Greeen Chillies : 4
Garam Masala : A little more than a pinch (optional)
Oil or Ghee : 1 tb sp
Jeera : 1/2 tsp
Lemon : 1 Full
Salt to taste

Method:

Cut Onions and Tomatoes finely. Cut green chillies into fine pieces. Cook Green Gram Dhal with water in a pressure cooker with turmeric. The Dhal should be finely cooked.

Heat Ghee or oil or both mixed in equal quantities and add jeera, when it splutters add Onions, when the onions turn transparent add tomatoes and green chillies and also little (a pinch) of turmeric and saute till the raw smell goes and they are finely cooked.

Now if required add little garam masala (little more than a pinch) and saute together with the already saute Onions and tomatoes.

Now add the cooked dhal. if the cooked dhal is very thick add little water and then add salt and allow the dhal and the other vegetables to cook and mix well.

Once they are well cooked add corainder leaves (finely cut) for aroma and flavour.
Dash with lemon juice and serve with chappathis.

Tips:

1. When adding water to dhal to cook in pressure cooker ensure the water is 1:2 times
2. To save time and gas cook the onions, tomatoes and green chiilies with turmeric in Micro wave.
3. do not add salt when cooking in microwave
4. add lemon when the dhal is in room temperature
